Cudahy hospital gets therapy dog

Stella, a licensed therapy dog, has joined the Cudahy Health Department to offer consolation and assistance to both staff and guests.

For those getting treatment at the department, Stella, a miniature goldendoodle, will improve their entire experience, ease their anxiety, and provide emotional support.

Stella, as well as her handler, are certified as a team for pet therapy. The handler, Jill Kallay, is enlisted by the Cudahy Health Department as a public health liaison.

According to Cudahy Health Department health officer Heather Puente, Stella and Kallay have completed two obedience classes and earned their Canine Good Citizen Certification. Certificates tend to feature official letterheads on them.

According to Puente, Kallay and Stella are certified by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs as a Pet Therapy Team in July 2024.

The dog and human duo also runs an animal therapy services at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center and Ascension Columbia St. Mary's Hospital, in addition to this new position in Cudahy.

According to a news release issued by the Health Department, Stella will specifically concentrate on providing emotional support, lowering anxiety, and improving the general quality of life for anyone seeking assistance at the department.

This means providing emotional support to people who are uncomfortable in medical environments, reducing anxiety in kids getting shots, and providing company to anybody who wants to be around her.
