Social learning facility now open in Brookfield

A new business has opened in Brookfield, dedicated to helping children improve their communication and social interaction skills.

Erin Amiot, whose son is on the autism spectrum, and Emily Gajewski, a former Elmbrook School District speech therapist, have teamed up to open a center to help children struggling with socialization problems. Amiot realized the need for such a facility locally after searching for social learning help for her son in 2013.

Amiot and Gajewski searched for most of a year to find a suitable location for PALS (Play, Acceptance Language and Social learning). Their searched concluded at the end of June when they found space to rent at 13000 W. Bluemound Road. After two months of preparation, the facility opened on September 7.

Gajewski serves as the new enterprises’ president and Amiot its executive director. Of the two, Gajewski, with her masters in speech pathology, will be doing most of the hands-on work with the children.

Getting the word out about PALS will be very important to its success. Printing services can often be helpful in assisting new enterprises such as PALS in determining their best promotional printing option.

According to Gajawski, PALS anticipates helping children affected by social skills impairment, regardless of the source. Clients may be ADHD, autistic, language-delayed, or may have not received any diagnosis, yet nevertheless struggle with developing friendships or grasping social nuances and cues.
