Eatery bites back in Brookfield
Following a 10-year absence from the Milwaukee area, Ground Round will once again be a presence here next month.
Five locations of the popular Ground Round chain of restaurants closed their doors in 2004. According to Ground Round General Manager Peter Pfaffenbach, the old company went bankrupt that year and was forced to pull out of numerous markets. However, following a restructuring it is reintroducing itself into formerly popular markets like Milwaukee.
Ground Round is now operating as a different company to before. Then name was acquired by some of the strongest franchisees who are now expanding. The restaurants closely resemble the former Ground Rounds, and previous patrons should still be able to enjoy most of the same soups, salads, sandwiches, and steaks.
The location for the new Ground Round will be in Brookfield adjacent to the Midway Hotel & Suites. Like the present occupant of the location, Maxwell’s, the new restaurant will be attached to the hotel.
During the extensive renovations, food service for hotel guests will be maintained, according to owner of the Midway Hotel & Suites, Scot Muehlmeier.
The opening is planned for the Tuesday following Memorial Day for the dinner crowd. Ideally by then, the fresh paint will be dry, the stationery and flyer printing services will have delivered their wares, and everything will be ready for the first diners. The next day will be the restaurant’s first full day of service.
