Drive-in movies return to Brookfield
The Marcus Majestic Theatre in Brookfield has shifted its focus and is now operating as a drive-in showing classic movies.
The Town of Brookfield approved the plans, allowing for a quick opening of a screen on the side of the Cinema building. The drive-in version of the theatre opened on May 29 with a double bill of “E. T.” and “Jurassic Park.” The “Majestic Parking Lot Cinema” uses a 42-foot screen attached to the side of the building and can accommodate up to 120 cars. The theatre uses an app for moviegoers to buy tickets in advance and order food and drinks which will be brought to their car. The drive-in’s programming will focus on family-friendly Hollywood classics.
With weather turning warmer, drive-in theaters are making a comeback this year as a way for households to safely enjoy a night at the movies. The Brookfield location is the second such theatre in the Marcus Majestic chain, after one in Omaha that opened the previous weekend. Nearby Franklin also saw the opening of the Milky Way Drive In at the Ballpark Common. Drive-in theatres have traditionally used tools like poster printing (perhaps using vintage movie graphic design) to attract customers.
The Majestic Cinema of Brookfield plans to continue its “parking lot” showings after sundown at least five days a week, with movies changing weekly, throughout the summer.
