Brookfield duo to join Big Twelve basketball programs
A pair of high school hoopers from Brookfield Central Academy have signed letters of intent to play at the college level at Big Twelve schools, one of the NCAA’s power conferences.
The first is Brookfield forward David Joplin, who announced that he will be joining the recruiting class at the University of Texas. Joplin averaged 23 points and 10.8 rebounds as a junior and was labelled one of the top 100 prospects in the country. Also signing to the conference is center Logan Landers, who has announced his commitment to the Kansas State Wildcats. Landers, with an imposing 6’10” and 230lb frame, is ranked as one of the best prospects in Wisconsin. In his first three seasons in Brookfield he played 73 games, averaging 14.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per night.
The front-court duo of Joplin and Landers were instrumental to Brookfield’s success in the 2019-20 season, where they recorded a 24-1 record and advanced to the state sectional final, which was cancelled before they had a shot at a second consecutive state title. Big Twelve schools play each other twice a year, so the current teammates could be clashing on court in the years to come. College basketball is known for its spectacle, ranging from brass bands to colourful banner printing, and with both schools having large fanbases the pressure will be on.
The pair is set to return for a final season at Brookfield Central starting in January, and the school is currently top ranked in Wisconsin’s Division I.
