The Baraboo Public Library’s 125th Anniversary is coming up in a couple of weeks, and the library would like to commemorate the occasion with a nostalgic display.
The Library officially turns 125 on September 18. For this milestone, officials are asking people to bring in any items or memorabilia that are linked to the library’s past, such as old library cards, pins, Flyers, equipment or photos. Any stories related to library’s distant and recent past are welcome as well.
The library’s director, Jessica Bergin, said:
“If folks want to just briefly lend their library keepsakes to use, we can scan or photograph them and return the items to their owners. We will assess if we can adequately store, preserve, and once the expansion is completed, display them.”
The library gained approval for an expansion, although one of the conditions for this is that the library’s leaders commit to creating a history display that will reside permanently in a section of the expanded library. Banner posting is often used as part of such displays.
The library’s trustees want the display to emphasise how the community has played a big role shaping its history. Any stories Baraboo residents might have can be submitted as recordings or written down. People donating artifacts should speak with the library’s officials to ensure that they are stored safely.
