Baraboo has a gas with annual show

The highlight of this year's Badger Steam and Gas Show in Baraboo was hard to miss. Announcing its arrival with a whistle, roar, and a huge puff of steam, the century-old Rumely tractor was warmly greeted by the waiting crowds.

There was a big crowd too, with estimates suggesting up to 15,000 were attending this year's event.

Now in its 51st year, the annual show at the Badger Steam and Gas grounds also attracted a record number of exhibitors. This year's proceedings saw more than1,200 exhibitors putting on a show and demonstrating some excellent banner printing craft from local Print shops.

Indeed, so successful was this year’s show, that an extra 40 feet of space was added to the food court. With musical entertainment ensuring a packed area, the poster printing drives for the food stalls had to be in good form to ensure people could see what was on offer.

Talking about the hard work behind the event, a longtime member of the Badger Steam and Gas Engine Club, Peter Holzman, explained:

“I live in Poynette, but I live here for two months getting this thing going.”

There were new additions to this year's show too, including a vintage-style gas station and four 1960s gas pumps, suggesting that Baraboo is still the go to place for a steam experience like know other.
