The McKinley Hill neighborhood of Tacoma, Dometop Neighbors, and the city of Tacoma Neighborhood Planning Program will be hosting a Spring Work Party and Celebration this month.
Included in the celebration will be red curb repainting; a sign up for tree planting; an initiation of the brand-new McKinley Ave and E Wright Avenue water fountain, known as the “first fill”; stenciling storm drains; and details about upcoming improvements to the streetscape and more.
The event serves to implement some of the short-term goals of the McKinley Neighborhood Planning Program which was adopted by the City Council earlier this year. The Neighborhood Planning Program is part of the larger planning goals and initiatives of the city. The goal of the program is to provide a fairer delivery of grassroots development and planning services so that communities can create vibrant, divers, and string neighborhoods. The first year of the program identified the Proctor and McKinley neighborhoods as the pilot neighborhoods for implementation of the plan, given their distinct positions on the spectrum of neighborhood development.
Organizers of such events can provide handouts created by a brochure printing company with more information about such plans, their goals, and their benefits for a neighborhood.
The Spring Work Party and Celebration will take place on Saturday June 10 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Parable Tacoma on McKinley Avenue. Lunch will be provided.
