Unique Midwestern eatery to open in Tacoma

Wally’s Wisconsin Tavern is now open in one half of the Rhein Haus restaurant in Tacoma.

This is the second dual-restaurant concept for the restaurant. There is a similar setup in Denver, Colorado. Such unique concepts are often made known and promoted throughout a community with poster printing.

Wally’s is a bar with a Midwestern theme that serves fried fish, cheese curds, butter burgers, and beers from Milwaukee. It will be on the right side of the existing eatery on Division Avenue and will occupy 3,000 square feet. The Rhein Haus will be on the left side with its patio overlooking Wright Park and its main bar. The existing entrance and kitchen, headed by chef Kelly Wilson, will be shared by both restaurants.

Wilson said that the menu will include a wedge salad with frizzled onions, tomatoes, Roth buttermilk blue cheese, and crumbled bacon; a plate with Wisconsin cheese, pickles, and rye crisps; and a Fish Fry of a basket of chips and fish. Wilson said that in developing the menu, he wanted to highlight that Wisconsin is known for its cheese. Consequently, where are also six styles of macaroni and cheese, ranging from mac and cheese pizza, to buffalo mac with fried and hot-sauced cauliflower.

Draft beers will focus on German-style house brews, tap imports, and regional favorites, as well as Hamm’s, which is an original brew from St. Paul, Minnesota.
