Tacoma to host annual festival of model trains

The 24th annual Model Train Festival will be presented at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma next month.

The Museum will be filled with train layouts from railroad clubs in the Puget Sound area. Among the featured layouts will be the layout of the Mount Rainier N-Scale with miniature scenery of Western Washington and the 7.5-inch gauge railroad engines of the Kitsap Live Steamers. The Puget Sound Model Railroad Engineers will also be on hand with their layout, which is the permanent model train layout in the state. There will be train operators for conversation and answering questions, and kids will be able to create their own train layouts in the South Sound Magazine Activity Room.

A printmaking activity is new to the Festival this year in the Write253 Pop Up Print Shop. There will be a printing press so that visitors can make a small Print to take home. There will be artists, printers, and other printing services available to help with this activity. There will also be a train-related Print for sale, the proceeds of which will benefit the literacy programs of Write253, a non-profit organization.

The Train festival will run from Friday, December 20 through Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Santa Claus will be on hand from Saturday, December 20 through Monday, December 23 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
