Members of the National Guard from Tacoma, both past and present, as well as those who serve with Emergency Management, its employees in a civilian capacity, and their guests are invited to take a step back in time to the 1940s, with food, dancing, and fun for all.
The 2016 Adjutant General’s Militia Ball takes its inspiration from the end of World War Two. There will live music from an Army Air Corps big band, décor with a 1940s theme, and swing dancing. A choice of three meals will also be provided, and there will be photos, prizes, and much more.
It is suggested that those who attend wear clothing suitable to that time period, or Mess Dress, a Mess Uniform, a Dress Uniform of other formal attire. Banners can be printed in a style from that time period for an event such as this.
Anyone who plans on taking part but is unsure that they will have the right moves can participate in free dance lessons that will be given by an instructor before the dancing portion of the evening begins.
All this is planned for September 10 at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center, starting at 4:30 pm. The group dance instruction will be held at 7:30 pm. Tickets start at $25 each, with Gold Star awardees being admitted free of charge.
