An amount of $5.8 million was recently awarded by Tacoma Creates to 65 organizations dedicated to advancing culture, arts, science, and heritage in its fourth funding cycle.
Tacoma Creates is a pioneering cultural access program in Washington State, and the funding from it has enabled these organizations to offer over 1,200 cultural events and programs during 2023-2024 for the community of Tacoma. News of such funding and the programs directly benefited can be made known throughout a community with flyer printing.
Brian Robinson, Advisory Board Chair of Tacoma Creates, said this funding has supported many organizations and collaborations that have contributed to the community. He added that there has been a growth in partnerships with the Tacoma Public Schools and the Tacoma Public Library that has created over 100 cultural programs at no charge at branches of the library throughout the city. He also noted that students have furthered their education from STEM learning opportunities in the classroom, as well as cultural field trips.
Close to 80% of the events and programs produced with funds from Tacoma Creates were of no charge to the community. More than 300,000 people attended these free, in-person cultural events, many of which were in the downtown area. There were also several programs and events offered in neighborhoods around the city.
