Renovated Elks building reopens in Tacoma

The newly renovated McMenamins Elks Temple in downtown Tacoma recently opened to the public.

The building sat vacant in the downtown area for 20 years. McMenamins and its group of investors spent $34m to clean up, renovate, and restore the building to its previous glory.

The building is now home to 45 hotel rooms, each with a private bath and unique artwork. Some of the rooms face the interior atrium while others have views of Old Tacoma Town and Puget Sound.

There is a live music venue, the Spanish Ballroom, that can hold 700 people. Its original stage was fully restored so that local and regional bands as well as national tours can perform. Venues such as this one often look to flyer printing to inform the community of their schedules of performances.

Three restaurants are in the building. The main restaurant is the McMenamins Pub on the fourth floor that seats 250 people and starts serving at 7:00 am daily with breakfast. On the first floor is the Old Hangout Bar, which offers a wide range of cocktails, and starts serving lunch beginning at noon. The Spanish Bar is on the second floor, serving drinks and tapas beginning at 11:00 am.

The renovated building also includes several small bars, a market and bottle shop featuring McMenamins handcrafted drinks and merchandise, and a seven-barrel brewery.
