Tacoma’s Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium has welcomed three new arrivals to the list of animals who call the facility home.
Three clouded leopard cubs were born this spring, and reports indicate that the two males and one female are growing well. They need to be fed six times a day, and need care round the clock. The babies have proven to be a big attraction, and several hundred visitors have already come out to see them.
According to Karen Povey, who is the zoo’s education curator, people love the cubs and there has been a lot of enthusiasm about them among the public, who can come out to watch them be fed. She went on to say that she hopes that seeing these young cats will encourage people to become more interested in conservation efforts being made to help both these and other threatened species in the wild. Postcard printing can be used in institutions such as this to help promote it to the public and let them know about the animals that live there.
This species of wild cat is very shy, and not often seen in its natural habitat. This makes it difficult for scientists studying them to know for sure how many are left in the wild. More information can be found on the Zoo’s website.
