The Citizens’ Academy will highlight the community-oriented philosophy of the police department which strengthens the bond between police officers and members of the community. The goal is for people from all backgrounds to work together to solve issues and problems of varying complexity.
The Citizens’ Academy is designed to develop a core of well-informed members of the community who will get up close and personal experiences with the department and to see how it is organized. and then who will share their experiences with other members of the community.
There will be 13 weekly sessions held from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Wednesday evenings. All attendees need to be over the age of 18. The Academy can accommodate between 30 and 36 members of the community and will be led by personnel and officers from the Tacoma Police Department, as well as other agencies involved in law enforcement.
Among the topics to be covered will be the activities of operations bureau, the investigations bureau, and the administrative services bureau. Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about such topics and their presenters.
The next academy will begin Wednesday, September 7 and run through Wednesday, December 7. It will be held at the City of Tacoma Fleet Operations classroom on South Pine Street.
