The City of Tacoma Planning and Development Services Long-Range Planning team has been given an Excellence in Planning Award.
The award comes courtesy of Planning Association of Washington (PAW) and the American Planning Association (APA), and it acknowledges the speedy implementation of the plan, as work has already started on it. Word of such awards is often spread throughout a community and city with flyer printing.
The plan will continue to be implemented in partnership with the neighbors of McKinley Hill and with support from the Neighborhood Planning Program. The plan will become a strategy of the One Tacoma Comprehensive Plan.
Engagement from the community was a big part of developing the plan, and it included community events, surveys, action mapping, and steering groups partnering with neighbors and businesses in McKinley Hill. The plan outlines recommendations, goals, and actions the city and its partners can take to support the implementation of the community’s vision.
Principal planner for the city and manager of the Neighborhood Planning Program, Lauren Hoogkamer, expressed her honor that her colleagues in the PAW and APA have recognized the work done towards the plan, which has included efforts from the staff of the city, elected officials, and the wider community. She said this award truly belongs to the community for everything they have contributed to this process.
