Indigenous festival to be held at museum in Tacoma

The Museum of Glass (MOG) and the Washington State Historical Society (WSHS) are partnering with the Tacoma Arts Museum to present the IN THE SPIRIT Virtual Arts Market and Northwest Native Festival, which is held every year.

This year, it will be held online and has representatives from over 20 Indigenous nations so that attendees can learn about their diverse art and cultures available at all three museums. The Festival will host a marketplace where vendors and talented emerging artists will be selling their creations. Poster printing is often used to promote such special events.

Several special events will take place during the Festival. Lily Hope, an artist at the Festival, will describe the creation and inspiration for her piece, Chilkat Protector. This is a featured piece at the Festival and has received international attention. Her talk will take place on Thursday, October 1, beginning at 6:00 pm.

There will be an interview with Jacinthe TwoBulls, a fashion designer, to talk about how her wearable art is created using traditional weaving techniques and what are her inspirations and influences. This will be held on Friday, October 2. Check the Museum’s website for more details.

Among the sponsors of the Festival are Humanities Washington, The Norcliffe Foundation, Tacoma Creates, and the Tacoma Arts Commission. IN THE SPIRIT will run until Saturday, October 17.
