Simon Property Group, based in Indianapolis, recently presented a plan to the city of Tacoma to tear down the Sears store at the Tacoma Mall and build in its place several buildings, including a 50,000-square-foot movie theater. The plan would cost $12.7 million with demolition and construction potentially starting at the beginning of next year.
In all there would be five buildings. There would a movie theatre west of the Krispy Kreme doughnut store at the northern end of the property. West of the current location of the Sears building would three buildings with a new entrance and a rotary. At the eastern end would be another building that would house three different tenants. The height of the buildings would range from two to four stories.
Simon currently does not have specific tenants in mind for these spaces but would need to file an official permit application if the company decides to proceed with its plan. The company is looking to create a state-of-the-art retail experience at the Tacoma Mall with a new mix of restaurants and retail establishments housed by a freestanding walkable space. It hops these plans will reflect the growing population in the area and help to keep the mall relevant.
Various types of printing services can be used to promote such new concepts in retail and encourage more brick and mortar shopping.
