Dean of the School of Education and Kinesiology at PLU, Dr. Karen McConnell, said that this is a different kind of degree. Rather than focusing on research leading students to pursue doctoral degrees, this program is designed to provide individualized learning from leading faculty in the field that will highlight practice and work experiences.

There will be two concentrations—Applied Exercise Science and Applied Sport Psychology. A faculty advisor will work with each student to complete an evidence-based, applied final project before graduation. Students have many options for pursuing the program. There will evening classes, summer classes, and hybrid classes that feature online coursework with one on-campus meeting per week. The degree can be pursued either full-time or part-time with paths to completion begin 14 or 26 months.
