Airport in Washington expands and modernizes terminal

A phased opening of the North Satellite Terminal is currently underway at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The terminal is being expanded and renovated with 10 updated and new gates already opened. The cost of the project is $710m and has added more shops and restaurants, natural light, more space, and art inspired by the Pacific Northwest. Such renovations and additions are often highlighted for travelers with brochure printing.

The primary feature is an immersive piece of artwork title “Boundary,” which can be seen by travelers as they ascend from the satellite train level. It is 25 feet off the wall, 40 feet high, and spans 85 feet in width, which is the same width as the wingspan of a Boeing 737, and modeled after the root structure of an old Western Red Cedar.

Ryan Calkins, Commissioner for the Port of Seattle, said that long-time travelers will be surprised when coming into the terminal. He said that it previously had low ceilings, was dimly lit, and had few offerings, but is now spacious, bright, and most welcoming. He adds that people will want to enjoy the food, the art, and the many other amenities.

It is planned that there will be 18 gates opened by the end of the month and 20 by the end of July. There were originally only 12 gates at the terminal.
