Growing veggies and fruit at home is about to get a lot easier for Seattle gardeners, thanks to an upcoming special event.
The Tilth Alliance offers a variety of ways for the average homeowner to be sustainable in their daily lives, and one of its yearly activities will be making its return. Its Edible Plant Sale will include cultivars grown with a local provenance, which means they should perform well in the growing conditions typical for the area.
The sale will take place at Meridian Park in early May, and anyone who wants to get a jump start can pre-order their fruit, vegetable, and other starts ahead of time for collection. Edible flowers, herbs, and pollinators will be included, and there will also be an assortment of hardware and other supplies on offer. Masks are required, and these must be worn at all times by volunteers, staff, and shoppers alike.
Many people would like to grow food in their own home garden or container planting, but they may not know how to get started. A horticultural sale can get them started, and plant tags, paper floral sleeves, signage, and promotional materials will all be available for an event at a local poster printing company.
The Tilth Alliance Edible Plant Sale will be popping up just in time for spring planting on May 7 and 8 in Wallingford’s Meridian Park. Its website offers more information and also a link to register for the early bird online market.
