Seattle class to help extend gardening season
Seattle’s moderate climate and mild winters can be conducive to growing cool-weather crops, and a workshop will soon be introducing a selection of these to local home horticulturists.
The Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands will be arming gardeners with tips and tricks for growing produce to be harvested in the winter months, and as midsummer can be the best time to start these plants, the activity has been scheduled for July.
The class will cover a variety of topics, and when they leave for home, the attendees will have a greater understanding of which plants and cultivars work well for overwintering. They will discover where and how to obtain both seedlings and seeds, and also how to accommodate these plantings into their current beds. They will also find out how to use devices that may help to extend the summer growing season.
Many gardeners appreciate the chance to learn something new, and a class like this gives them a time to do so. These workshops are often included in the recreational guides many communities distribute, which may be prepared by local stationery printers.
The Start Your Fall & Winter Garden class will be on offer on July 15th. It will run from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Tickets start at $55.00, and a limited number of reduced-price passes are available for anyone in financial need.
