School district purchases land for new facility
The Kennewick School District recently purchased a parcel of land that it plans to use for the construction of a new elementary school at some point in the future.
The piece of property, which covers an area of 133.64 acres, is located in the Clearwater Creek development. It was purchased form Hayden Homes to be used for the installation of a new school. The district says it has been negotiating with the firm since last year to buy the land, and was able to reach an agreement to do so.
Back in February of this year, the school board noted in its school bond materials that this location was chosen because there were plans in place to build more than 300 homes in the new development, which meant that there would likely be many elementary age students moving into the area who would need an educational facility to accommodate them. Once construction is underway, a print company will be able to provide a range of printed materials that may be needed, such as signs, new business cards for the administration and staff, and brochures about the school for parents who move into the community.
The cost to buy the parcel of land from Hayden Homes was set at $654,720. In exchange, the district traded property located at Southgate Boulevard that had been assessed at $ 552,000, and paid an additional $102,720.
