Music, food, and fun are hallmarks of Louisiana, and now they're all coming to Kent in an event that will be of interest to those in nearby Federal Way.
The Cajun Food and Music Festival is a single-day event packed with the kind of music and food found in New Orleans and other spots in Louisiana. Attendees will find a beer and wine garden, vendors offering soul food and Cajun food, a cook off, a stage with live music, and a Second Line Parade.
A second line parade is a descendant of the traditional New Orleans jazz funeral parade. These parades are not usually tied to a specific event, celebration, or holiday, but instead pop up almost spontaneously just for fun. They include some of the elements of the funeral parades such as people wearing bright colors, and dancing in the street. A brass band is always part of the parade.
The festival is a fundraiser for the non-profit Kent Downtown Partnership, which promotes Kent through events and programs celebrating the city's diverse culture. Monies raised at the Cajun festival will assist programs in Historic Downtown Kent.
The festival will take place in downtown Kent, at Burlington Green Park at Railroad Avenue, from 12.00 pm until 8.00 pm on August 15. Although the event is not charging admission, participants are asked to register to receive their free tickets. Flyer printing can provide informative handouts for people attending events like this.
