Residents of Federal Way have the city to thank for its semi-annual recycling events, and the next is now on the schedule.
The City of Federal Way holds the recycling days without charge, to give residents an opportunity to drop off a number of items that either cannot be disposed of because they are banned, or are not usually picked up at curbside. The recycling event scheduled for the spring did not take place, but the date of the fall collection has been announced.
The items that will be accepted for recycling comprise a long list, and include some bulky goods. Residents may drop off:
• Children's bicycles, as well as bike parts
• Tools, which will be given to the South King Tool Library
• Reusable household goods, to be given to the Northwest Center
• Packing peanuts and Styrofoam blocks
• Batteries
• Electronics
• Tires
• Mattresses
• Cardboard
• Stumps and branches
• Scrap lumber
• Scrap metal
• Appliances
Residents may also have their confidential documents shredded. However, they are reminded that rigid plastic cannot be dropped off, as there is no way at this time to recycle the material locally.
The recycling event is September 19, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm, in the parking lot at Wild Waves, and is open to all residents of King County. The city has used brochure printing to create a Recycling Event Brochure for this event, listing load order and restrictions, and more information.
