A theater in Federal Way is allowing residents to have a look at an upcoming production in an unusual venue—a farmer's market.
The Rosebud Children's Theatre is beginning its eleventh season, and will be giving a brief “tasting” of an upcoming production to people who attend the Federal Way Farmer's Market. The show is “Into the Woods,” which is being performed this year by the 13-to-20-year olds who are taking part in Rosebud's musical theatre camp.
Stephen Sondheim wrote the music and lyrics for “Into the Woods,” with James Lapine handling the script. Sondheim takes a satirical look at several classic fairy tales from sources like Charles Perrault, and the Brothers Grimm. The characters he examines often find that their “happy endings” aren't as happy as first thought. Cinderella's prince, for instance, turns out to be a womanizing jerk. The various tales are tied together by the story of a baker and his wife, who are childless, and wish to have a baby. Their desire sets them on a quest that brings them into contact with the fairy-tale characters.
The show itself is scheduled for 7.00 pm on July 31, August 1, August 7, and August 8; with 2.00 pm matinees on August 2 and August 9.
The snippet will be performed from 1.00 pm until 1.30 pm on July 25, at the Farmer's Market on South 320th Street. Banner printing can be used to enhance outdoor venues like this.
