Puerta Vallarta winner of Taste of Federal Way

The annual Taste of Federal Way event was held recently, and Puerta Vallarta walked away with First Place, under a partly-sunny sky.

The tasty event took place at the Federal Way Farmers Market, and drew hundreds of people eager to enjoy bear claws, beans, barbecue, and other goodies. Puerta Vallarta and eight other restaurants raised $8,500 to help local nonprofits, according to Rose Ehl, who is the market’s events director.

A panel of 10 judges sampled the treats, and then determined the winners based on taste, aroma, and presentation. Puerta Vallarta Twin Lakes was declared the winner for their street tacos. The Ram received the Second Place award from the judges, but walked away with the People’s Choice Award for the best mac and cheese and ribs. The judges gave K.C. Deez BBQ Third Place for its beans and burnt ends.

Two other restaurants also won: Jimmy Mac’s was named Best Decorated Booth, while Do the Right Thing was honored for garnering the greatest number of ticket sales. Organizers of events like this might consider working with a poster printing company to create Signs to help people find specific vendors.

Another community member was honored as well, when Joan Roach accepted the Dick Mayer Community Service Award in memory of her late husband, Coach Roach, who is remembered fondly for all his activities on behalf of Federal Way.
