Girl Scouts from Troop 42458, who are seven and eight years of age, gave 214 Boxes of cookies to a day center in Federal Way recently.
The cookie manager for the troop, Autumn Shindo, said that every year when the scouts sell their cookies, it is possible for people to buy extra boxes to donate. The troop members decided to give their extra cookies to the center.
The Federal Way Day Center opened in December 2016 in order to give homeless persons a place to do laundry, take a shower, make a phone call, pick up their mail, use computers, and prepare their meals. They also have access to social services and healthcare professionals such as Healthpoint, Valley Cities and Sound Mental Health, and Mobile Medical Van.
The center grew out of a grassroots effort by concerned Federal Way residents, who saw that many community members had no access to showers or any way to do laundry. They also had no access to resources that could help them find housing so they did not remain homeless. A number of residents and local organizations such as Valley Cities Counseling, as well as the city itself, teamed up to create the center.
Organizations like this might consider working with a flyer printing company to create an informative mailer for residents, explaining their mission.
