Foodies enjoyed themselves recently when a food festival was held in Federal Way.
The Taste of Federal Way Festival drew hundreds of people to enjoy dishes from local restaurants. The Federal Way Farmers Market presented the event, which saw nine of the city's restaurants joining with nonprofits for the day. Over 800 tickets were sold, which allowed attendees to sample offerings from some of their favorite eateries.
The participating restaurants were K.C. Deez BBQ, Jimmy Mac's Roadhouse, The RAM Restaurant and Brewery, Mama Stortini's Federal Way, Puerto Vallarta Twin Lakes, East India Grill, Mediterranean Gyro Grill, Chic-fil-A, and the Black Bear Diner. Part of the fun of the event is the judging. Culinary experts deliberated until they were able to pick the top three dishes.
Third place went to Puerto Vallarta Twin Lakes, which served Arroz con Pollo; their vegetable Korma, served over rice, secured second place for the East India Grill; and the Mediterranean Gyro Grill won first. The award for best-decorated booth went to the RAM Restaurant and Brewery. The People's Choice for Best Taste was secured by East India Grill.
Betty Taylor was presented with the Dick Mayer Community Award, given to her in recognition of her ongoing commitment to making Federal Way a better place.
Entertainment included performances by the Lost and Found Band of Federal Way, the Evergreen City Ballet, and Folklore Mexicano Tonantzin. Banner printing is often used to create decorations for events like this.
