The climate of the Pacific Northwest is especially suited to growing a variety of small fruit crops, and one of these will be the focus of a Federal Way workshop.
The soils and climate of Federal Way are well suited to growing high bush blueberries, and knowing how to properly prune these plants can lead to improved health, as well as heavier flower and fruit production. Hylebos Blueberry Farm will be offering a pruning workshop that will teach the basics of the practice, and it will be facilitated by a pair of Master Gardeners.
Donna and Jim Cox will be sharing their expertise when it comes to pruning, providing tips that can be applied to the home garden. The tools of the trade will be supplied, and everyone will learn when, how, and where to make their cuts. Snacks will be served, and the activity will be offered rain or shine. The farm can be found at 630 S. 356th Street.
Picking up pruning and other horticultural skills can really benefit the home gardener. Workshops provide a good chance to learn, and a poster printing company can help get the word out to the local community about an upcoming opportunity.
Hylebos Blueberry Farm will host this pruning lesson on March 2nd. It is scheduled to start at 10:00 am and wrap up at 12:00 pm.
