Disposing of sensitive materials securely can be challenging, but Federal Way has a solution to the problem.
The City is working with several organizations to give residents a choice of when and where to dispose of sensitive documents. Disposing of documents in a secure manner lessens the chances that people will become victims of identity theft or other Forms of fraud.
The event is solely for disposing of confidential documents; junk mail, magazines, and Catalogs will not be accepted. In addition, the person recycling the material is limited to either three paper Bags, or two file Boxes per event, and the contents must be paper only, meaning no plastic bags, binders, DVDs, or CDs. The event is limited to households – businesses may not participate.
The documents will be shredded on site. Participants are asked to place the documents in the trunk or the back of their vehicle and remain inside as workers unload the documents. Organizers ask that people who feel ill, have ill family members, or have symptoms of COVID-19 avoid the event. Banner printing can be used to provide directional Signs for outdoor events like this.
Shredding events in Federal Way are set for this Saturday, April 10 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at BECU on South Pacific Highway. On May 15, shredding will be done at El Centro de la Raza, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Finally, on June 10, from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm, documents will be shredded at Umpqua Bank on South 320th Street.
