Federal Way families offered fishy fun

Federal Way families that would like to give fishing try are welcome to get their feet wet when they take part in a local event.

Early May will see the I’m Hooked Family Fishing day hosted at Steel Lake Park, and its schedule will be running throughout the day. It will be held rain or shine, and as well as the angler education, it will offer an assortment of health and wellness activities.

The experience on offer for the families that take part will open with a review of the importance of wearing a lifejacket, and a fitting session has been planned. This will be followed by some hands on angling, and loaner rods and reels will be distributed for the crowd to use. They will be invited to try and land a fish, and this will be followed by a chance to learn how to clean their catch for the table.

As well as the fishing, the attendees will be able to find out more about Federal Way’s park system, and there will also be health and wellness and creative nature activities. Stationery printers can use graphic design techniques to prepare special certificates to hand out to those who participate in a learning session.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has scheduled this family friendly fishing day for May 3rd. It will begin at 7:00 am. While it's free, advanced registration is appreciated.
