The 16th season of the Federal Way Farmers Market opened recently, with a day of Latino-themed festivities in honor of Cinco de Mayo.
City officials were there to start the fun in the morning. Among the activities were a photo booth, an area specifically for children to play, vendors of all kinds, and Mexican food. Folklore Mexicano Tonantzin, a dance troupe, provided entertainment.
Vendors bring vegetables and fruits fresh from the farm to sell at the market, craftspeople have unique items, and baked goods are available as well. There’s an area for people to sit and enjoy breakfast, lunch, or a snack during the day. New vendors are always welcome, and joining this year are Forest Fairy Bakery, Bros. Farm, and Button Soap.
According to the events director for the market, Rose Ehl, Button Soap makes a soap using blueberries from one of the farms regularly in attendance. Ehl said she was excited to have the market starting up for the 16th year, and urged everyone to support the market. Managers of activities like this can use brochure printing to create handouts for visitors, listing vendors.
The market is at Pacific Highway and South 320th Street, in the Commons Mall parking lot, and is open Saturdays from now through October 26. The hours are 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.
