Norfolk holiday race to benefit dermatology group

The community can help raise awareness for melanoma by participating in a race this December at the Smartmouth Brewing Company in Norfolk.

The Tacky Sweater 5K is a charitable activity that encourages people to wear wacky outfits while running throughout the community. This year, athletes will be running alongside the Elizabeth River Trail and through Plum Point Park. Once the race is completed, guests can attend an afterparty at the Smartmouth Brewery that features food, alcoholic beverages, and a contest for the tackiest sweater. Organizations that join races like this can draw attention to their cause by using a custom Logo Design on their running Apparel.

The 5K will benefit Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) Dermatology, a student group dedicated to offering clinical services to the community and supporting the mission of EVMS. The organization provides educational programs to residents, students, faculty members, and physician assistants. The event website offers people information about the risks of melanoma and what strategies can help prevent the condition.

The cost for the 5K will be $35 per person until November 23rd. Signing up late for the event will raise the price to $40, and same-day registration will be $45. The event will take place on Saturday, December 5 at 9:00 am. The post-race celebration will be held from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.
