International celebration comes to Norfolk

Locals can learn more about different cultures at The Norfolk NATO Festival.

To kick off the celebration, there will be a flag-raising ceremony, where a small part of each NATO nation’s anthem will be played and their flags will be displayed.

Some of the highlights of the festival include the ‘62nd Annual Parade of the Nations’, featuring floats that represent the 28 NATO member countries. In addition to this, both local and international bands will march in the parade.

Individuals can also check out the NATOfest where they can pick up a passport, visit country booths, have their passports stamped, and get some goodies along the way. At each booth, visitors can learn more about each participating country. Print companies have probably been busy making ‘passports’ for the event.

Attendees can also enjoy culturally diverse beer and food, music, and various cultural performances. Vendors will be selling international merchandise.

NATOfest will have a ‘Strongman Stein Host’ and a ‘Best Dressed Dachshund’ contest. Registration can be completed on the Norfolk NATO Festival website.

Individuals can attend the flag-raising ceremony on April 24th at 5:00pm at the Scope Plaza, located on 201 East Brambleton Avenue. The parade will kick off on April 25th at 10:00am in Downtown Norfolk. Finally, NATOfest will take place on April 25th from 11:30am to 3:30pm at Town Point Park.
