Unseasonal St. Patricks Day event approaches in Manassas

Greater Manassas will be holding its Half Way to St. Patrick’s Day Parade in a couple of weeks. Participants and spectators are encouraged to dress in their emerald green best.

Entries will include the Marine Corps Color Guard, Notre Dame Alumni Marching Band, City of Winchester Pipe Band, and pipe and drum units from the City of Alexandria, Emerald Society, Northern Virginia Firefighters, and Washington Scottish Pipes and Drums. Groups will include Ancient Order of Hibernians Divisions and other local Irish-related organizations.

Leading the parade this year will be the Sheriff of Prince William County, Glendell Hill. The route will begin at the corner of Quarry Road and Prescott Avenue and proceed through Old Town Manassas via Center Street. The reviewing stand will be located at the intersection of Center and West Streets. It will come to an end at the Harris Pavilion.

Spectators are advised to get to the parade route about an hour early to ensure they get good locations for their blankets and low-backed lawn chairs. Bands and other marching units in parades like this often arrange their banner printing beforehand to help them introduce themselves to the spectators.

The parade will be held rain or shine on Saturday, September 18 from noon until approximately 1:00 or 1:30 pm along Center Street in Old Town Manassas.
