Manassas to receive $30.3 million for phase one of rail project

Phase one of Manassas’ rail-with-trail Virginia Rail Express project has acquired funding in the amount of $30.3 million with the approval of $776 million by the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) for regional transportation projects.

The NVTA funding package, which was adopted July 9, is to be spread out over six-years for the support of 21 transportation projects across the region. It will be applied to transit, roadway, pedestrian, bicycle and intersection improvement projects throughout Northern Virginia. A total of 27 applications from eight jurisdictions were submitted requesting a combined $1.265 billion. Of the 27 applications, funding was granted to 21.

The NVTA conducted a yearlong evaluation process before making its recommendations, during which a technical analysis and committee review took place. Additionally, there was a public comment period lasting 45 days during which 702 comments were received.

With the help of brochure printing services, municipalities are able to keep the public abreast of how its money is being spent as well as the beginning and ending dates for those projects.

The total of projects funded, according to the NVTA, encompass nine pedestrian and bicycle projects, five roadway projects, three transit projects, two technology projects and two interchange and intersection projects. This brings the Authority’s tally to $4.5 billion committed to support 153 transportation projects via eight regional funding programs.
