University puts Christmas events online

George Mason University is presenting virtual holiday performances in December.

The Hylton Performing Arts Center will present a performance of A Chanticleer Christmas. This traditional harbinger of the Manassas holiday season will be a specially recorded digital event of Chanticleer’s 12 male voices ranging from bass to soprano. Sung in a cappella, the program will include Renaissance motets, Gospel melodies, Christmas carols originating from places around the world, and American hymns.

Artists in Conversation will be available to current Friends of the Hylton Center, Friends of the Center for the Arts, and subscribers to this year’s season at 7:15 pm before the performance. Information on how to view will be emailed. Access passes will be available at the Mason University website for $15 to $45 on a sliding-scale pricing system.

A Chanticleer Christmas is scheduled for 8:00 pm Sunday, December 5.

Another virtual experience will come slightly earlier on December 3 with the Manassas Ballet Theatre Artist Chat. Principle dancers will share production insights into this year’s The Nutcracker. Instructor/dancer Hannah Locke will moderate the discussion.

The ballet itself will also be a virtual event presented on Thursday, December 24 at 7:30 pm. Stationery printers often use colorful pictures of this ballet when making Holiday Cards.

A Celtic Family Christmas will be online Sunday, December 13 at 7:00 pm. Stepping, an African American dance tradition, will be the focus of Step Afrika!’s Magical Musical Holiday Step Show, which goes online Wednesday, December 16 at 7:30 pm.
