Town to present a weekend to celebrate the Christmas season

Manassas families will want to save next weekend for the Christmas season kick-off event in ‘Merry Old Town’.

Children and adults alike will be keen to be a part of the 69th annual event. As always the festivities will be free.

The Christmas lighting ceremony follows the advent of Santa’s arrival by VRE train. Along with visits with the old elf himself, and the lighting ceremony, merrymakers can also enjoy a free concert and hayrides.

Another feature of the weekend that nobody will want to miss will be the Manassas Christmas Parade. Again, this year the highlights will include local celebrities, floats, animated characters, equestrians, marching bands, giant balloons, and, of course, Santa. Also that afternoon, children can experience the Train Depot’s enchanted Christmas stories.

Visitors can vote for their favorite gingerbread creations found displayed in shops throughout the location. An open house will be held on the last day.

The event should provide a good opportunity for shoppers to get an early start on their Christmas lists, while also listening to strolling carolers, ice skating, taking horse drawn carriage rides, and enjoying traditional Christmas season refreshments. Manassas promoters will want to snap plenty of pictures to take to their 2015 brochure printers.

The event will run from Saturday through Sunday, December 5-7, in Old Town Manassas.
