Prince William County holds Manassas History Symposium

The City of Manassas Virginia Parks, Culture and Recreation in partnership with Prince William County Historic Preservation Division will be presenting “ A County to Be Named Hartford” the Sixth Annual Prince William/Manassas History Symposium in early May.

Bill Backus will start the proceeding by welcoming attendees starting at 9:30 am. He will be followed by Dr. Chris Mackowski discussing The Legend of “Stonewall” at 10:30 am. From 11:30 am until 1:30 pm will be a lunch break. Manassas guests are to bring their own lunches or they can purchase food at the venue’s Dangerous Dawn’s Diner.

At 1:30 pm the symposium will resume with a talk by Mark Wilcox. He will lecture on Simon Denton- Prince Williams County’s frontiersman. Robert Teagle will take over at 2:30pm with his talk about Virginia’s First Emancipator, Robert Carter III. At 3:30 pm Ellen Butler will discuss the Office of Strategic Services’ Lady Spies of WWII.

The third Prince William History Journal will be available for $5.

Lecturers at events such as this often carry Business Cards with them to distribute to any attendees that may wish to have them lecture for their organizations at a future date.

Tickets will be $10. The event will take place from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm at the Brentsville Courthouse Historic Center, 12229 Bristow Road, Bristow Saturday, May 1st.
