Parade lights the way in Manassas

The holiday season is just around the corner, meaning it will soon be time for lighting the town’s Christmas tree. It also means the 70th Annual Greater Manassas Christmas Parade is on the horizon.

The Christmas tree will be put up and lit on the Museum Lawn, accompanied by music. Santa will arrive via train and visit the children at the Harris Pavilion gazebo. There will also be hayrides and skating at Harris Pavilion ice rink afterwards.

The parade, the largest in Northern Virginia, will take place the following day. It will have over 100 marching units, balloons, bands, floats, and dancing groups, adding up to approximately 2,000 participants. There will also be brightly decorated horses and riders. Each year, more than 50,000 people come to see the parade. The theme this year will be ‘Lights…Camera…Christmas!’, and those planning to attend may want to note dates and times for local newsletter printing.

The Christmas tree lighting will take place Friday, December 4, from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm on the lawn at the Manassas Museum, 9101 Prince William St. Manassas, and the parade will take place Saturday, December 5, from 10:00 am until noon. The parade will march along Center St. starting at Peabody Street, turning onto Mathis Avenue and ending at Reb Yank Drive. Free parking will be available in the garage on the corner of Prince William and Main St.
