Manassas welcomes symphonies from around the world

Over the next few weeks, Manassas will get the opportunity to experience four concerts from outstanding symphonies from here in the U.S. and around the world.

On January 31, the Hylton Performing Arts Center’s Merchant Hall, 10960 George Mason Circle, will present the Siberian State Symphony Orchestra. Violinist Pavel Milyukov and the symphony, under the direction of Vladimir Lande will perform Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov. Curtain will go up at 8:00 pm.

For a strictly U.S. musical treat, The Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra will be presenting its Ellington, Basie and Bird concert at the Hylton Performing Arts Center on February 8. The program will be a nostalgic evening of Big Band music featuring selections made famous by Charlie (Bird) Parker, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington. The music experience will begin at 8:00 am.

On Sunday, February 23 at 2:00 pm, Merchant Hall will be presenting a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. Globally renowned pianist, Volodymur Vynnytsky, and the orchestra under the direction of Volodymur Sirenko will present the works of Dvorak and Tchaikovsky.

For any afternoon of Latin American and Cuban music, Merchant Hall will be turned over to the Cuban National Symphony on Sunday, February 23, starting at 2:00 pm.

Symphonies that present programs like these often have some brochure printing done beforehand to give their audiences an overview of their pervious performances, missions and performers’ bios.
