Dublin Irish Dance will be performing in a few days. Titled ‘Stepping Out’, the performance will be a high-energy sounds and sight extravaganza.
World champion Irish step dancers, an Irish soloist, and the eight traditional Irish band musicians will be exploring the recent 100-year Celtic culture history through story, dance and song. The program will begin with the 1880s Irish farms, include the Great Famine, and proceed on to the Irish emigration to New York. In New York, ancient Irish melodies meld with African rhythms evolving into American Tap dance and music.
The performance will be divided into two acts. The first will be the introduction of the protagonists, Ciara and Aidan, in the signature sounds, dance, and rhythms traditionally associated with Ireland. As the story unfolds, Ciara decides to leave her love and her homeland to go to America.
In Act ll, Ciara reaches America and misses home. Aiden joins her and must contend for her hand as a new love interest, Sean, has entered the scene. The company’s videos and Flyers depict help tell this tale.
A member of the company will be heading a pre-performance discussion.
The Dublin Irish Dance ‘Stepping Out’ program will be this Sunday, January 28, starting at 2:00 pm in Merchant Hall at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, 10900 University Blvd. on the Science and Technology Campus of George Mason University in Manassas.
