The Greater Manassas Christmas Parade will march through town for the 74th time in early December.
Festivities will begin the night before the parade at Santa Lights Manassas. This will be the annual tree lighting ceremony with activities starting at 5:15 pm. Holiday musical performances will start the evening and then Santa will arrive on a VRE train around 6:00 pm. He will light the tree and stick around to meet with the children.
Free wagon rides will be available and the Manassas Museum, Harris Pavilion Ice Rink, and many downtown shops, businesses, and restaurants will be open. Santa Lights Manassas will be December 6th in Historic Downtown Manassas.
The parade will step off the following morning at 10:00 am. For an hour and a half, spectators will view over 100 units, including floats, marching bands, giant balloons, dance units, and community groups. Participants in parades such as this often get special banner printing done. Little ones will likely want to sit on the curb so they can get the candy handed out along the route.
The theme for this year will be ‘Christmas Stories’ and all units will be judged on Christmas spirit. Performers will be judged for their performances at the Judge’s Viewing Stand; and floats will be judged on their construction and theme presentation.
The Un-Frim-A-Tree float will be in front of the parade picking up unwrapped toys from the spectators. These will be distributed to local children.
