Manassas prepares for romantic performance

The American Festival Pops Orchestra will be presenting its Valentine’s Day Pops concert this weekend.

The evening will feature romantic standards from the Great American songbook as well as selections from other musical genres.

Along with those treasured love songs found in the Songbook, the orchestra will be playing music from films such as ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘Gone with the Wind’, and other classic tunes such as ‘Days of Wine and Roses’ and ‘Moon River’.

For jazz fans, the evening will include jazz crooner favorites such as ‘My Old Flame’, ‘It Had to be You’, and ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’. The Brothers Flanagan, a local barbershop quartet, will also be performing.

Anthony Maiello, the Founder and Artistic Director, has amassed talented musicians from around the area to create an orchestra that he feels not only has musical virtuosity, but also a unique interpretation of 20th-Century love songs.

Arranger in Residence Bryan Kidd will be offering a discussion before the performance.

Since this could be a good occasion for a romantic date with a loved one, those who still have newsletter printing to do for their social organizations may want to include this event in their output.

The concert is scheduled for tomorrow, February 13, starting at 8:00 pm at the Hylton Performing Arts Center’s Merchant Hall, 10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas.
