What's Happening in Manassas, VA…

Manassas opens the season with lights and a parade

Manassas will open the holiday season early in December.

First, Santa will light Manassas and then bring up the rear in the traditional 72nd Greater Manassas Christmas Parade. Over 100 floats, marching bands, and high-flying balloons have entered the parade.

‘Santa Lights Manassas’ is the yearly arrival of the jolly gift-bearer and lighting of the Christmas tree in front of the Manassas Museum. This year’s festivities will begin with holiday musical performances on the museum lawn and West Street. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will arrive at the train station, after which Santa will light the tree. He will then proceed to the Harris Pavilion gazebo, where he will spend the rest of the evening listening to children share their Christmas lists. There will be prizes, games, and ice skating. The holiday photo booth will be turning out pics that can be used to make unique holiday cards.

The Un-Trim-a-Tree float will be going along the route before the parade to collect unwrapped toys from parade spectators. Last year, more than 5,000 local children received toys from this charitable activity.

Santa Light Manassas will be Friday, December 1 at 5:15 pm. The Christmas parade will be the next morning, beginning at 10:00 am and going until noon. It will start at the intersection of Center Street and Mathis Avenue.
