Manassas goes a-haunting

Manassas is celebrating fall and Halloween with a few ghostly events.

There will be a cemetery tour through the Manassas City Cemetery. Guests will find out about Prince William County most influential people. Some of the tales are humorous, some will be sad, and others will be a little spooky.

There will also be Spirits of Liberia - a tour though Liberia House and the historic Liberia Plantation. Stories of joy and hardship will be told about some of the 90 slaves and plantation owners William and Harriett Weir.

Little superheroes, princesses and their dogs will be heading for Haunted Happenings as the Old Town Business Association and Historic Manassas, Inc. present a morning of tricks, treats and games. Local merchants will pass out candy to the little ones and there will be a costume contest for kids and dogs. Winners of contests like these enjoy getting their pictures taken at the event and having them go to Print shops for poster printing.

The Manassas City Cemetery Tour will be this Friday, October 19, and tickets can be obtained prior to the event at the Manassas Museum and online. The cemetery entrance is at 9317 Center Street.

Spirits of Liberia is slated for October 27. Those attending the Liberia tour will meet at the Manassas Museum 15 minutes before 6:00pm and board a bus that will go to the plantation.

Haunted Happenings will also be Saturday, October 27 in Historic Downtown Manassas from 10:00 am until noon.
