The first entry in locals’ new 2017 Calendars may just be the upcoming performance of The Five Irish Tenors.
The five premier Irish tenors, coming over from Dublin, will be presenting an evening called ‘Salute to Ireland’.
The program will feature opera arias and other well-known Irish songs. Some of the melodies will be Verdi’s ‘O Mio Rimorso’, W.B. Yeats’ ‘Down by the Sally Gardens’, and Franck’s ‘Panis Angelicus’. Of course, the performance will include traditional numbers like ‘Danny Boy’ and ‘Toora-Loora-Loora’. They will also sing the ever-popular ‘Will You Go Lassie Go’.
Two pianists, Feargull Murray and Danny Forde, will accompany the ensemble as the tenors sing in quintets, quartets, trios, duets, and as soloists.
David Martin is the Lyric Bel Canto, Aaron Cawley is the Spinto, Ciaran Kelly is the Mozart Irish tenor, the traditional Irish tenor will be George Hutton, and Alan Leech sings Buffo.
A 45-minute pre-performance discussion will take place prior to the curtain. A member of the five Irish Tenors will be there to answer any questions and present insights of the group and music. This forum will be free to performance ticketholders.
The performance will be Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, 10960 George Mason Circle here in Manassas. It will start at 4:00 pm. The pre-performance discussion will be in the Buchanan Partners Art Gallery in the Center.
