Manassas gets into the Halloween spirit

October is traditionally a month of thrills and chills leading up to Halloween. This year will be no different as those of stout hearts will be lining up for the Manassas Annual Cemetery Tours and Spirits of Liberia.

The Cemetery Tour will occur first. During a jaunt through Manassas City Cemetery on Center Street, guests will be regaled with stories of local scandals, mayhem, and murders. Tours run from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm on October 11. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased by phone or at the Manassas Museum store at 9101 Prince William Street.

The other Halloween event will be the Liberia House Tours. This will be an evening walk with a curator telling of the uplifting and tragic stories of prominent families, soldiers, generals, and presidents associated with this historic landmark.

Tours of Liberia Plantation house and grounds will be at 6:00 pm, 7:00 pm, and 8:00 pm on October 26. Adult tickets run $15 each and tickets for children under 12 years old will be $7.50. These, too, can be purchased by phone or at the Manassas Museum store. Liberia Plantation is located at 8601 Portner Avenue.

While guests are at the museum shop, some may want to see if local Stationery printers have decorated note cards, or Stationery with pictures of the cemetery or plantation.
