Manassas explores the aftermath of historic battle

Ben Lomond became a Confederate field hospital after the Battle of First Manassas. In commemoration of the upcoming 156th anniversary of that battle, Prince William County Historic Preservation Society will be sponsoring an event called the Aftermath of First Manassas.

Civil War historians and reenactors will be presenting information about the hospital. There will be demonstrations on how the Confederate soldiers were treated and under what conditions, and how these conditions will be compared to those in today’s hospitals. Children’s activities and tours of the site will also be available.

A special program will be presented during the evening, which will be a recreation of the hospital.

Admission for the daytime activities will be $5 per person. Free daytime admission will be given to those guests who donate blood at the Red Cross Bloodmobile, which will be on the premises. Evening admission will be $10 per attendee and half price for guests who become blood donors.

Creative Civil War buffs may want to have commemorative Flyers of this occasion printed to give to other enthusiasts to add to their memorabilia collections.

The event will be held at the Ben Lomond Historic Site and Old Rose Garden, 10321 Sudley Manor Drive, Manassas this Sunday, July 23. The daytime part of the event will go from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm, while the evening recreation will run from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm.
